The price of 3D printing is not “per piece” but a combination of material, time and labour. We explain what makes up the price and how you can reduce it.
The most common question before an order is: “How much will it cost?” There is no single flat price for 3D printing — the result depends on several factors. Once you understand them, you can not only estimate the price but also influence it.
FDM printing is priced mainly by the grams of filament used. A larger, more solid part means more material and a higher price. You can influence this with the infill: a solid part is more expensive and heavier than a part with 20% infill, which is perfectly strong enough for most uses.
A printer “runs” for hours, and machine time and energy cost money. Printing time increases with the height of the part (number of layers), a finer layer height and complexity. A lower layer height gives a nicer surface but takes longer.
Some parts need supports removed, sanding, gluing or painting after printing. This manual work has to be added. The cleaner a part comes straight off the printer, the cheaper it is.
In a series, one-off tasks (preparation, setup) are spread across more pieces, so the price per piece falls. If you are planning several identical parts, let us know in advance — we will offer a better price.
