Both technologies cut material, but each is good at something different. We explain when to choose a laser and when a milling machine.
Both a laser and a CNC milling machine can turn material into a precise shape, but they work in completely different ways. A laser burns through the material with a beam, while a milling machine removes it with a rotating tool. That determines their strengths and weaknesses.
A laser is fast and precise for flat non-metallic parts and is also suitable for engraving surfaces. A milling machine handles thicker and harder materials and 3D shapes. For thin wood, acrylic and personalisation a laser is more suitable; for metal and heavy 3D machining, a milling machine.
At SolidLabs we offer laser cutting and engraving of non-metallic materials (wood and boards up to 3 cm thick), metal marking and 3D printing. We do not cut metal. If you are not sure which technology suits your part, write to us — we will advise you even if a different route is more suitable.
Not sure what suits your project? Describe it to us and we will advise you.
